WELCOME TO VINTAGE VALVE RADIOS Hi, I'm Ray. Welcome to my web site which is dedicated to British valve radios from the nineteen thirties, forties and fifties. Collecting early radios is becoming increasingly popular and more people than ever are dragging their old wireless sets from the attic and wiping the dust off the Bakelite or wood cabinets. Bush, HMV, Marconi, Defiant, Ferranti, Ekco, RGD, Dynatron, Decca, Ferguson, Pye, Murphy, Philips... They were good old British radios, and people are discovering that they can still be used today. Once you've dusted off your vintage radio, you'll need to find a qualified engineer with experience of early radio repairs. There are a few web sites advertising the repair and restoration of old radios, but do be careful. The last thing you want is to entrust your treasured and valuable antique radio to an unqualified amateur who restores radios at weekends as a sideline. Repairing or restoring a vintage or antique radio isn't just a case of changing a valve or faulty component and polishing the cabinet. There are important safety issues to bear in mind. Many early radios have a live chassis. In other words, the metalwork inside the cabinet is connected directly to the mains - and can be lethal. If you want a vintage radio fully restored, your first step will be to find a reliable and trustworthy engineer qualified to carry out the work. That's where I come in... I'm City and Guilds qualified, and I have over forty years experience in the trade.
